The city strongly encourages/ recommends use of the provided title blocks for projects submitted.

New Address Requests

Address Request processing takes approximately two business days. If you have any questions or want to check on the status of your request, please contact this office by emailing us at Addressing@akronohio.gov or by calling Plans & Permits at 330-375-2010 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Plans And Permits Inspections are to be scheduled 48 Hrs prior to work beginning.

The City of Akron will continue to review ALL projects within the City of Akron limits. Summit County Department of Building Standards will do a separate plan review simultaneously.

City of Akron building permits (e.g. HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural) inspections will be performed by Summit County Department of Building Standards. Their contact information is:

Your project may require multiple permits that may be issued by Summit Count Department of Building Standards and the City of Akron. All projects within the City of Akron must be submitted to Summit County as well as the City of Akron.

The Summit Count Department of Building Standards reviews and issues permits for the following:

In 2009, the City of Akron Building Department was combined with Summit County Department of Building Standards.

The City of Akron requires all plans to be submitted via the Plan Review and Permit Portal located on this webpage and must be in PDF format.

Commercial projects plans must be drawn and stamped by a state licensed designer. (This is state law)

If you are a resident performing work on your own home, you may submit detailed drawings of the work you wish to perform.

Hard copies may be requested by reviewing departments at the expense of the submitter.

The Summit County Departments of Building Standards issues the building permits for the City of Akron and can not issue building permits without Akron Approval.

To obtain Akron Approval, you will need to submit plans to our office separately via our Plan Review and Permits portal located on this website.

We allow our plan reviewers approximately fourteen (14) business days to review your project. It may take longer depending on how large or complex the project is.

The City of Akron requires all contractors regardless of trade to register as a contractor if the work they are preforming requires a permit to do the work.
